2003 USGA Women’s State Team Championship

Wellesley Hills, Mass. Emily Bastel, 23, of Upper Sandusky shot a 1-under-par 72 to lead Ohio to the title at the 2003 USGA Women’s State Team Championship Thursday at the par-73, 6,047-yard Wellesley Country Club.

Ohio finished with a team total of 9-over-par 447, four strokes ahead of North Carolina, which made a late charge to finish at 451. Georgia finished five back, at 452, and Oregon tied with Maryland for fourth, at 453.

 

Bastel, a member of the victorious 2002 USA Curtis Cup team, birdied the first two holes, but bogeyed five of the next seven to finish with a 3-over 40 on the front nine.

PAR AND YARDAGE – Wellesley Country Club will be set at 6,047 yards and play to par 37-36—73.

WELLESLEY CCWellesley Country Club was opened in 1910 as nine holes designed by Donald Ross. The second nine holes were added in 1961, designed by Geoffrey Cornish. Revisions were later made by Brian Silva and Craig Schteiner.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY – The field of golfers will play 18 holes on each of three stroke play rounds Sept. 16-18 (Tuesday-Thursday). The two lowest scores from each three-woman team constitute the team score for each round. The three-day total is the team’s score for the Championship.

ALL CAN ATTEND – The general public is invited to attend the championship. Both admission and parking are free of charge.
